What is an interesting thing to trigger shapeshifting?

I am writing a book involving shape shifters and the main character kind of hates/loves it because she can fly (she changes to an eagle) but she can never get close to anybody because nobody else can know. But as I was writing I was thinking, “Why would she voluntarily change into this if it destroys all of her relationships when the only benefit is flying/freedom” So I decided that she can change voluntarily but also involuntarily, I just need to think of an interesting trigger. And please don’t say full moon. That has just been done to death. Seriously!

Have if not be voluntary. Make it into something that she has to do like twice a month. If she doesn’t change she gets sick, or she starts to get extreme pains. If she doesn’t willingly do it her body will force her into doing it.
